𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐏 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐚

February 24, 2023, Puttalam – Ms. Azusa Kubota, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (#UNDP) launched her first mission to monitor the progress of the Climate Resilient Integrated Water Management Project (#CRIWMP) interventions in Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Puttalam districts. During her visit, the progress of climate smart agriculture practices and adaptations of the #CRIWMP in #Kadawala Cascade, Nawagattegama in Puttalam District was also observed. Several informal gatherings and discussions were held with the farmers, farmer societies and agri-entrepreneurs of the area about the progress made and difficulties they faced during the crisis period.

She also spent time to interacting with the #Ramabakanayake Women Handicrafts Society and viewing their attractive eco-friendly products. She did not forget to enjoy the community lunch prepared by villagers in Nawaghattagama with them at the same visit.

Officials from #CRIWMP , #UNDP, Department of Agrarian Development and project team of the #SPASRI participated in this Field mission. She highly appreciated the efforts made by the project partners with the rural communities to make the project a success.

The #CRIWMP is implemented by the Ministry of Irrigation and Technical Assistance by the #UNDP with financial support from the Green Climate Fund (#GCF) and the Government of Sri Lanka (#GoSL). #SAPSRI is the local civil society organisation involved in community mobilization activities of the project’s in Puttalam District.
